A fly-tipper who said he paid someone from Gumtree to remove a pile of dumped rubbish in County Durham has been forced to cough up £256 in fines.
Andrew Williams, of Brighton Parade in Hebburn, was contacted by Durham County Council after wardens found evidence within a pile of dumped waste in Tanfield.
A picture taken from the scene on February 20 last year appears to shows several black bags of rubbish and various other items such as a glass fridge shelf and a tub of Dulux paint.
Williams was given 14 days to contact the officer investigating the dumped waste - but after failing to do so, a Section 108 Notice was issued, meaning he had to attend an interview.
He failed to attend or make contact with the council, breaching the notice.
Williams attended court and plead guilty to offences under Section 34 of Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Section 110 of Environment Act 1995,
He stated in court that he had paid someone to remove the rubbish for him and found them on Gumtree. He now has a total of £256 in fines and costs to pay.

The council said: “If we write to you in relation to a fly-tipping investigation we are carrying out, please don't ignore us as you will find yourself in court.”
It has also issued advice, saying to be aware if someone is collecting your waste that:
- You use a waste company registered with the Environment Agency - ask to see their waste carrier certificate
- Keep all paperwork issued by the company
