Search the Public Notice PortalTech giant Amazon is to build a new warehouse near Ingleby Barwick, The Northern Echo can reveal.
The firm will construct a new delivery station on grassland just off Queen Elizabeth Way, which leads into the housing estate, and south of Preston Farm Industrial Estate.
A new roundabout will be installed on Queen Elizabeth Way to allow access to the new facility, with another entrance planned via the industrial estate's Lockheed Close.
This marks yet another Amazon expansion in the North East, with the brand already boasting fulfilment centres at Darlington, Wynyard, Durham and Gateshead.
Amazon has confirmed the Ingleby Barwick location to The Northern Echo, saying it is “excited about the development” and “looks forward to sharing more details in the future”.
Plans for the unit remain under wraps at this time - however, the Echo understands that the Ingleby warehouse will solely be a delivery station, as opposed to its nearby fulfilment centres.
It comes as work gets underway this week near the new entrance to the site, with Stockton Council enforcing lane closures to clear vegetation until Friday.
Speculation has been growing recently over whether Amazon may be taking on the new warehouse, after plans were lodged with the council several years ago.
And today's confirmation comes just weeks after Darlington was chosen to lead the retail giant’s new era of drone deliveries.
The first UK trials - due to start soon - will make Prime Air deliveries within a 7.5mile area, taking off and being guided from the 465,000 sq ft Amazon warehouse in Symmetry Park.
An Amazon spokesperson said: “We’re excited about the development and look forward to sharing more details in the future.”
Proposals to build a new 24/7 warehouse were first submitted to Stockton Council in December 2020, and were not approved until July 2023, subject to conditions.
The building, which will be decorated in “varying tones of grey”, planned to have a total space of 13,167m², featuring warehouse space on the ground floor and mezzanine offices.
The site was initially set to have 807 van parking spaces over four floors and three upper levels of decked parking, plus 247 car parking spaces.
However, a more recent plan, which was submitted last October and is still awaiting a decision, wanted to make a few small changes.

This includes reducing the floorspace to 12,105m², van access bays to 757, car parking spaces to 221, and several other areas.
Once open, the main entry and exit for all staff vehicles and HGVs will be from Lockheed Close, which also looks set to receive double yellow lines to restrict parking along it.
Meanwhile, the van operation will use the Queen Elizabeth Way entrance with “ample queuing space up to a secure access point with a guard kiosk”.
