Probe into death of Cameron Stewart from Newton Aycliffe ongoing

Rider Cameron was left with 'critical injuries' and was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash with a car on Williamfield Way on June 3.

It happened at the same time as a memorial event for Wayne Hodgson, from Newton Aycliffe, on what would have been his 19th birthday.

Cameron Stewart (Image: HANDOUT/DURHAM CONSTABULARY) Wayne and 13-year-old Bobby Grimes, also from Newton Aycliffe, died in a crash at near Rushyford on July 5 last year when their motorbike was hit by a car after swerving into oncoming traffic.

Following his death, tributes poured in for Cameron, 23, while floral tributes were left at the crash site on Williamfield Way.

Floral tributes on Williamfield Way, Newton Aycliffe (Image: NORTHERN ECHO) In a tribute to Mr Stewart last week, his heartbroken family said: “Cameron was a beloved son, partner, brother, grandson, uncle, stepdad, nephew, cousin, and great friend to many.

“He lit up every room he walked in as if he had brought a whole bus load of people in.

“We want to thank everybody for their kindness at this sad time.”

A woman was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigation.

In an update on Friday (June 13), Durham Constabulary have said that the investigation into the death of the 23-year-old biker remains 'ongoing'.
