An investigation into the death of biker Cameron Stewart in Newton Aycliffe is 'ongoing', police have confirmed. 

Rider Cameron was left with 'critical injuries' and was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash with a car on Williamfield Way on June 3.

It happened at the same time as a memorial event for Wayne Hodgson, from Newton Aycliffe, on what would have been his 19th birthday.

Cameron StewartCameron Stewart (Image: HANDOUT/DURHAM CONSTABULARY) Wayne and 13-year-old Bobby Grimes, also from Newton Aycliffe, died in a crash at near Rushyford on July 5 last year when their motorbike was hit by a car after swerving into oncoming traffic.

Following his death, tributes poured in for Cameron, 23, while floral tributes were left at the crash site on Williamfield Way.

“He lit up every room he walked in as if he had brought a whole bus load of people in.

Our community will never be the same again.

“We want to thank everybody for their kindness at this sad time.”

A woman was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigation.

In an update on Friday (June 13), Durham Constabulary have said that the investigation into the death of the 23-year-old biker remains 'ongoing'.
