Road in Middlesbrough to be closed for eight months

The Vale in Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, will close to traffic on Monday, March 31, for eight months while major road improvement works are carried out.

Temporary traffic lights will also be in place on Keith Road outside Thirteen's new Hillside Gardens development, which is made up of 296 affordable rented homes in Grove Hill.

The works, carried out by Esh Construction, will see three-way traffic lights in place on Keith Road at the junction of The Vale and Hollyhurst Avenue for the next six months.

The lights will be manually controlled to accommodate traffic flows during peak periods.

Following this, two-way traffic lights and lane-narrowing will be in place on Keith Road until the end of November.

Work will include the full resurfacing of surrounding roads and the installation of permanent signals and a pedestrian crossing at the existing crossroads on Keith Road, The Vale and Hollyhurst Avenue.

The Vale will be fully reconstructed with new street lighting, renewed footpaths and kerb lines around the entire site, including on Marton Burn Road and Deepdale Avenue.

Two-way traffic lights will also be required when work begins on Marton Burn Road in May.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “These essential works are part of a major affordable housing development which is utilising a large brownfield former housing site.

“Unfortunately, some delays are inevitable while the surrounding roads are improved and we’re grateful to the public for their patience and understanding while work is undertaken.”
