A man has admitted fly tipping waste on a County Durham back lane.
The waste was found by Durham County Council Neighbourhood Wardens on a quiet back lane in Shildon.
Wardens say the waste was approximately just 4 miles from a household waste recycling centre.
They have warned potential fly tippers that if their waste is traced back to them, they could be taken to court and prosecuted.
The maximum fine is up to £50,000, and you could also be issued with a £1000 on-the-spot fixed penalty notice.
A spokesperson for the Neighbourhood Wardens said: “Whether you are a householder or business, you must dispose of waste correctly.
“This is from the moment the waste is produced to when it's received by a business that is authorised to deal with it. We recommend the following.”
Householder advice:
• If you pay anyone to take your rubbish away, check that they are registered to do this (ask to see their waste carrier certificate) - this includes builders and other tradesmen
• Use Gov.uk: find a registered waste carrier online
• Take your waste to one of our household waste recycling centres (tips)
• Pay for a large item (bulky waste) collection
• Donate good condition items to a re-use scheme
