A car hit the side barrier of the A66 on Thursday (May 23), as emergency services mistook a deployed airbag as smoke billowing from the car.
Emergency services were called to the A66 near Scotch Corner at about 9.45am, following reports of a single-car crash on the stretch of road.
After receiving reports of 'smoke' billowing from the car, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were first to the scene - and established that the 'smoke' was dust from an airbag.
The driver of the vehicle, who was shaken by the incident, had injured their hands - with fire crews administering first aid until the police and ambulance teams arrived on the scene.
The incident was left with North Yorkshire Police.
It's believed that the driver had no serious injuries following the crash.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "A crew from Richmond responded to a single-vehicle road traffic collision.
"The vehicle had hit the side barriers and the dust from the airbag was mistaken as smoke at first. On arrival, crews found the driver in the car of police and no sign of fire.
"Crews administered first aid for minor injuries to the driver's hands and then used crew power to assist in moving the vehicle to a safe location with Police and Highways. The incident was left in the hands of the Police and Highways."
