Work is being carried out to fix the water supply to a village near Northallerton after it was cut off this morning.

Yorkshire Water has confirmed that 25 homes have been cut off and has apologised for the "inconvenience".

The pipe has burst on Hornby Road and teams have been on site this morning to look at the situation.

Repair work is expected to begin shortly and temporary traffic lights have been put in place to ensure that the work is carried out safely.

Bottled water is being delivered to vulnerable customers registered on the Priority Services Register.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "We experienced a burst water main on Hornby Road, Appleton Wiske this morning.

"Our teams have been on site this morning to isolate the main and will be starting a repair as soon as possible.

"To allow this to be done safely, two-way traffic lights will be in place on Hornby Road.

"Supplies have been interrupted to approximately 25 properties and we apologise for any inconvenience."
