A man is in hospital following an assault in a County Durham town last night (Tuesday, October 11).

Shortly after 7pm yesterday, officers from Durham Police were called following reports that a man had been assaulted on Church Street in Seaham.

Paramedics also attended the scene and took the victim to hospital.

Members of the public took to a community Facebook group, Seaham – Have Your Say and expressed shock and disbelief at what had happened as one woman, Zoe Bentham, posted that ‘kids’ were responsible for the attack.

A spokeswoman for Durham Police said: “Police are investigating a suspected assault which took place in Seaham yesterday evening (October 11).

Officers were called to Church Street shortly after 7pm following reports that a man had been assaulted.

Paramedics also attended and took the man to hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 377 of October 11.”

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 7.14pm last night to reports of an injured man on Church Street, Seaham. We dispatched one ambulance crew who then took one patient to hospital for further treatment.”
