Police have now named a man who died yesterday following an attack in Grangetown, Middlesbrough, last week.

22-year-old local man Lewis Ward was struck by a car as he rode an e-scooter on Birchington Avenue on Thursday (October 6).

Lewis was taken to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and died a few days later, on Sunday, October 9.

Lewis’ heart-broken family said he was a much-loved son, brother, uncle and friend to many and that they have been left devastated by his death.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Lewis’ family has also asked for privacy as they grieve their loved one.

“Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”

As the murder investigation was launched, two men, 21 and 22 were arrested on Sunday (October 9).

In addition, one 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
