Detectives investigating the death of a man in Bishop Auckland have tonight charged a man with murder.

Police were called to Tenters Street shortly after 5am on Sunday (October 9) following reports of an assault.

Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service also attended, but sadly 40-year-old Jasreet Klare was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inderjit Klare, of Spennymoor, was arrested shortly after the incident and taken to police custody where he has been questioned by officers.

Jasreet, who lived in Durham, leaves behind a devastated family.

In a heartfelt tribute issued today, his fiancée, Emma, said: “Our hearts are broken, and our lives will never be the same.

“We all love you unreal amounts and will miss you terribly.

“Our family need time to process what has happened and request that we are afforded privacy at this time.”

On Sunday, a police cordon was in place while the public was told to avoid the area while officers carry out their enquiries.

Speaking yesterday, Detective Superintendent Lee Gosling, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would like to reassure residents that we do believe this to be an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

“There will be a high police presence in the area while officers conduct further enquiries.

"If you witnessed the incident or have any information that could help our investigation then please speak to one of these officers.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said it received a 999 call from a member of the public at 4.50am Sunday.

A NEAS spokesman added: “We got a call at 10 to 5 this morning to attend a patient at a private address in the Bishop Auckland area.

“A paramedic crew and a duty officer were dispatched.”
