HALLOWEEN is just around the corner, which means it’s time to delve into County Durham’s haunted history.

We already know the county is home to some truly spooky pubs with The Dun Cow Inn and The Merry Monk topping the list for paranormal activity.

However, pubs aren’t the only places said to be haunted in the town.

We have created an interactive map documenting spooky sightings and ghostly apparitions that are said to have taken place in County Durham

Information sourced from Paranormal Database

On the map you will find ghost stories from Lumley Castle, which is reputed to be haunted by the ghost of Lilly Lumley who was murdered for her religious beliefs.

A member of the Australian cricket team even spotted a ghost during their stay.

Also on the map is a haunted house in Newton Aycliffe; back in 2013, Adam Maddison said scratch marks appeared on the walls and objects would often move on their own.

The ghost of Robert Stirling is also said to haunt County Durham; he was murdered in 1855 and his murderer was never caught.
