A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted murder in Darlington.
Durham Police launched an investigation into the incident, which happened at a property on Yarm Road in Darlington, on Saturday evening.
Adam Burnside, of Garrick Court, Darlington, wore a prison-issued grey tracksuit when he appeared before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe this morning.
During the short hearing, the 45-year-old spoke only to confirm his name and address.
The court heard that the charge was in relation to the alleged attempted murder of the man.
Speaking before the hearing, a Durham Police spokeswoman said: "The charge relates to an incident in Darlington on Saturday evening (January 5) in which a woman died and a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
"The man remains in a stable condition in James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough."
The defendant was remanded in custody until he is next due before Teesside Crown court on February 4.
