A CALL for help create an iconic piece of land art to celebrate the visit of the world’s top cyclists to Richmondshire has gone out.

Richmondshire District Council is looking for an artist to design, create and install the temporary artwork close to the Buttertubs Pass near Hawes.

It will need to depict the district, be bold and large scale so it can be captured as part of the television coverage of the UCI Road World Championships which come to Yorkshire in September.

“These championships will put Richmondshire on the world cycling stage and we want to celebrate this visit with some amazing land art,” said leader of the council, Councillor Angie Dale.

"We want to create a piece of land art that will really make an impact – and be remembered long after the cyclists have gone home.”

The council has set aside £5,000 for the commissioned piece of work and is asking interested artists to send in their brief by the end of July. Visit richmondshire.gov.uk or contact Jo-Anne Simpson on 01748-901045.
