A RACING Welfare fundraising campaign has received a royal boost after HRH The Princess Royal officially launched it at a special dinner.

The building project for Hill House in Middleham, which would create accommodation for young racing staff, and the appeal aims to raise £2m.

HRH The Princess Royal, attended a special dinner to mark the launch of the appeal at the Wensleydale Heifer in Leyburn.

Racing Welfare will develop Hill House in Middleham in association with the Jessica Bethell Foundation and will aim to create a community resource centre which, in addition to 12 units of accommodation for young people aged 16 to 24 years old, will incorporate areas for use by the wider community including offices for the charity’s regional welfare team, a gym, an IT suite and space for community events.

The site of the current Hill House in Middleham was purchased by Racing Welfare in 2017.

Racing Welfare’s chief executive Dawn Goodfellow said, “We are honoured to have had our president, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. We hope that people will share our vision for the project and offer their support."
