MORE than 100 call centre staff will give up their Friday night to take donations to one of the country's biggest fundraising campaigns.

npower’s contact centre at Rainton House, between Durham and Sunderland, will man the phones for BBC Children in Need’s 2018 appeal this Friday.

The utility company has supported the charity drive for years but this is the first time centre staff are taking phone donations.

Volunteers will take calls from 7pm until 1am, so have planned to keep their spirits high on the evening with an 80’s themed disco, games, food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Ahead of the appeal, volunteers have also spent weeks fundraising in the office by holding cake sales, raffles and selling merchandise.

The teams even got a visit from Pudsey himself this week, who stopped by the office to encourage donations.

Kelly Swinney, npower delivery manager and activity organiser, said: "It’s a fantastic honour to be taking donations for Children In Need, and that’s reflected through the amount kind-hearted volunteers who have offered to give up their time this Friday. We can’t wait to do our part for such a worthy cause – and I have no doubt that we’ll create some fun along the way too.”
