Search the Public Notice PortalYarm’s Post Office will continue serving customers until the end of this month after an agreement was made with the store’s postmaster.
It came after reports on social media that the service, located at the 3D Leven Park Newsagents at Healaugh Park, had stopped several weeks earlier than planned.
A spokesperson confirmed it will continue to trade until September 27, as was previously announced earlier this year.
Plans remain underway to relocate the service to the Family Shopper on Mount Leven Road with a new postmaster and 60 hours of service each week.
A statement said: “An agreement has been reached for Healaugh Park to continue to trade at its current location until September 27.
“We want to thank the current postmaster for serving this community.
“The current location is being redeveloped with a reconfiguration of the shops. We are currently consulting on a proposed to move to a new location: Family Shopper, 98 Mount Leven Road, Yarn, TS15 9RJ and we hope to restore service as soon as possible.”
The closure of the Post Office at Healaugh Park, which is one of two in Yarm, was first announced earlier this year after the operator resigned.
3D Leven Park Newsagents will also close, and the unit is expected to be taken over by Whitworth Pharmacy.
The chemist is poised to move a few doors down to facilitate the extension of the nearby Aldi supermarket.
And just this week, the discount chain submitted formal plans to Stockton Council to increase the size of its shop, providing an extra 353m2 of floor space.
It is not yet known when Whitworth Pharmacy will relocate.
