Post Office sets closing date for Yarm Healaugh Park branch

Earlier this year, 3D Leven Park Newsagents, at Healaugh Park, announced it would be closing in late September after its operator resigned. 

This left a question mark over the future of both the unit, which is owned by supermarket giant Aldi, and the Post Office branch, which is one of two in Yarm.

A Post Office spokesperson previously confirmed that an unknown retailer was interested in taking it on, and that an application had been lodged. 

And now, the closing date for the Post Office, which has operated at the corner shop since 2018, has been confirmed as Saturday, September 27, at 12.30pm. 

A new letter from the Post Office area change manager said it was “currently investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office service”.

It reiterated there had been some local interest, and that customers would be advised on these plans once they are finalised. 

As previously reported, Aldi still owns - and has for many years - the Healaugh Park complex as a whole, which also includes Whitworth Pharmacy, Presto Pizza, and Yarm Fast Food. 

Following the closure of the newsagents, Whitworth Pharmacy is expected to relocate into the unit as part of plans for Aldi to extend its store. 

Aldi, which has been at Healaugh Park since November 2009, has long been wanting to expand and now wants to extend the building, adding an extra aisle.

The supermarket brand has recently sent out letters regarding the plans and will be knocking on the doors of nearby homes before officially lodging the proposals with Stockton Council.
