Thornaby man remanded in custody for assaulting woman twice

Andrew Jenkins attacked the same victim in March and April this year in Middlesbrough.

Teesside Crown Court heard how two other charges would be allowed to lie on file after he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm on March 9 and assault by beating on April 28.

Recorder Mark McKone warned the 32-year-old to work with the Probation Service to prepare a pre-sentence report.

He said: “You have pleaded guilty to two charges so you will be given credit for those guilty pleas. It also means you don’t have to go through a jury trial.

“I’m adjourning sentence until October to allow time to meet a probation officer who will want to look into why you have committed these offences, your personal circumstance and any alternatives to custody.

“In adjourning for a pre-sentence report, I am not making any promises to whether it will be custody or not.

“It’s very important that you keep the appointment, it is becoming very common for defendants to come to their sentencing hearing with no pre-sentence report.

“They will say that they had work or a family visit on the day of the appointment, you must give this priority because if you miss the appointment, it will be your fault.

“It is likely that sentence will be passed without a report and there is likely to be no other alternatives to custody to consider.”

Jenkins, of Sun Gardens, Thornaby, will be sentenced on October 6.
