Ignite Nightclub has been a feature on Skinnergate since July 2021, when it launched following a major revamp of the former Keys Nightclub.
But more than three years later, in November last year, the lights were switched off and speakers unplugged for the final time, it has now been revealed.
The former owner of Ignite has confirmed to The Northern Echo that the nightclub closed on November 30, and will not be reopening.

They said there are currently no plans to replace the club and could not comment on the future of the building - but wished any potential future owner good luck.
“We loved working in Darlington and had some amazing nights and met some brilliant people”, she explained. “Hopefully, future projects will bring us back to Darlington!
“Unfortunately I cannot comment as to what the future plans are for the premises. However, I would wish them luck as it’s a beautiful building and was taken well care of.
“Anyone would be lucky to have a business within the property.”

While the doors are closed, the Ignite branding above the main doors and flame artwork in the entrance hall and glass windows remain.
Ignite has been located above the Tre Amici restaurant, which remains open as normal, for several years - but the building’s popularity as a nightspot stretches much further back.
Decades ago, the whole building, which was designed and built in 1854, was known as the Filibuster and Firkin before it became a Flares and then a Retro nightclub.

It was taken over by The Keys, which still has a restaurant and nightclub in Yarm, in 2014, following a £1m year-long project to restore the building.
The Keys operated as a bar and restaurant downstairs and as the Institute Nightclub upstairs and remained on Skinnergate until February 2019, when the doors were suddenly shut.
Ignite then carried out an eight-month long revamp with new owners at the helm, hosting a grand opening following a year of closures from the Covid pandemic.
It had a large dance floor at its heart with state-of-the-art DJ equipment, special VIP areas and booths, and a new cocktail lounge next door.
The closure of Ignite follows several other late bar and nightclub closures in Darlington.

Now-closed nightclubs of Darlington’s past include the Plastered Parrot on Commercial Street, which was demolished, Mardi Gras and Escapade, on Gladstone Street, and Aruba and Route 66 on King Street, which are due to be torn down.
Inside Out, on Beaumont Street was also a popular haunt - but was shuttered in January 2020 and still stands frozen in time, with no news on its future.
More recent late bar closures include The Grange, Avalon, and Hoskins - although the latter two have since been taken over and revamped as The Cherry Tree and The Hummingbird.
