Signs up for new Odeon at former Cineworld Middlesbrough

The transformation of the venue, located on Marton Road, markes the return of the Odeon brand to the town centre after more than two decades. 

The new Odeon Luxe took over the site after Cineworld officially closed its doors on January 19 this year.

The new signs that have been erected say: "A little more comfort: Luxury recliners with extra legroom.

"A little more luxury: Coming soon to Middlesbrough."

Signs go up for new ODEON Luxe at former Cineworld site in Middlesbrough (Image: THE NORTHERN ECHO) Odeon previously had a presence in the town, operating a cinema on Corporation Road until its closure in 2001. 

That site was later repurposed as the Jumpin’ Jaks nightclub before being demolished in the mid-2000s.

The closure of Cineworld in Middlesbrough comes as part of a restructuring plan announced last year.

The cinema chain, which has operated in the town for 23 years, confirmed earlier this week that its final day of trading will be January 19, 2025.

Cineworld also announced the closure of five other sites.
