Cineworld has announced the date that its Middlesbrough cinema will close.

The cinema chain has confirmed that Middlesbrough Cineworld's last day of trading will be January 19, 2025.

It comes after the company announced plans to close the venue earlier on Tuesday.

Five Cineworld sites were closed in July, with six more locations, including the Middlesbrough venue, set to close in the coming months.

The other sites include Castleford, Leigh, Northampton, Poole, and Weymouth.

Cineworld in Middlesbrough, which has been operating for 23 years, is located on Marton Road.

The cinema chain delisted from the London Stock Exchange last August after its share price collapsed.

Javier Sotomayor, president of Cineworld International, said: "The successful completion of our restructuring plan, achieved with the crucial support of our landlords, protects thousands of jobs across the UK and provides us with the financial stability to continue investing in delivering extraordinary experiences for our valued customers."

"This milestone sets the stage for a brighter future, enabling Cineworld to continue sharing joy in communities across the UK for many years to come."
