Darlington singer Zoe Birkett wows on new BBC Radio 2 jingle

Zoe Birkett, a former Pop Idol contestant, recorded the vocal jingle for BBC Radio 2's new show hosted by Trevor Nelson and DJ Spoony.

Birkett shared her excitement on social media, saying: "Buzzing to have recorded the vocal jingle for Trevor Nelson's and DJ Spoony's new radio show on BBC Radio 2.

"I had so much fun with the writer in the studio.

"I was given a brief two days before recording but when I got into the booth the writer let me go loose vocally to pop my own spin on it.

"They were all so supportive and loved what I gave, and I can’t wait to tune in tonight to hear Spoony's jingle as hearing them live on radio is the first time I’ve heard them."

Trevor Nelson himself has praised the jingle, saying he was "still not over" the catchy tune and encouraged listeners of the new show to "get their diva on" to it.

TV presenter Paddy McGuinness also showed his appreciation, saying: "Love it T."

Birkett, who was born in Consett, finished fourth on the first series of Pop Idol, behind Will Young, Gareth Gates, and Darius Danesh.

She has also starred in the West End production of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical at the Aldwych Theatre.

Trevor Nelson took over the 2pm to 4pm slot on Radio 2 from Scott Mills, who moved to the breakfast show in January.

Mills, who has been on the radio for more than two decades, replaced former breakfast show presenter Zoe Ball, who helmed the show for more than half a decade until December.
