An escape room chain will open its latest venue at the Metrocentre this week.

The Escapologist has confirmed its store in the yellow mall of the Gateshead shopping centre will open on Saturday, June 15.

The chain, which has taken over the former JG Windows music store, has locations in Leeds and Castleford and is known for its unique steampunk-inspired ambience, taking inspiration both from Victorian elegance and industrial innovation.

The venue will have five themed rooms awaiting those willing to be locked in and have their escape skills tested against the clock.

Bosses say each room promises a “unique storyline and immersive environment that transports participants to another world”.

CEO Ellie McClaren said previously: "We are thrilled to bring The Escapologist to Metrocentre and introduce our unique escape rooms and cocktails to the vibrant community of Newcastle and the North East. Our goal is to transport our guests to a world where imagination knows no bounds, and every visit is an unforgettable adventure."

The rooms will be suitable for groups of all ages including families with young children and adult-only groups. The chain is also hoping to appeal to and from escape room novices and regulars.

It will also boast a cocktail bar for guests to enjoy a tipple after making their escape.
