An emergency closure is in place after flooding caused damage to a North Yorkshire car park.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have confirmed they have closed Cat Nab car park in Saltburn following a flood yesterday (May 22).

This comes after a yellow weather warning for heavy rain was issued for much of the North East by the Met Office.

A spokesperson for the council said: “An emergency closure is in place with immediate effect due to flooding and damage to the car park surface.

“We are currently working with Northumbrian Water to investigate.”

One resident said a car remained in the car park while the flooding was ongoing.

Residents reacted to the news and expressed shock at how bad the flooding was.

One resident said: “Just drove past here Rushpool Road, is bad [there] as well if anyone is going that way.

While another resident reported that the Cat Nab metal bridge had been cordoned off.

They said: “We've come off the park to find Cat Nab metal Bridge cordoned off.

“Just managed to cross wooden bridge at mini railway station, but looks like there's no chance of going back that way. Pub it is then.”
