A man has appeared in court charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of firearms and possession of a hand grenade following two incidents in the region.

Jack Walker pleaded not guilty to all charges connected with the incidents on Teesside and County Durham earlier this year.

The 30-year-old was arrested in connection with an incident on Shetland Avenue in Thornaby on Friday, April 12, and an earlier incident in Staindrop in County Durham, on Friday, March 29.

The defendant was remanded in custody until the date of his trial on October 21 at Teesside Crown Court.

Walker, whose last known address was Carey Road, Hackleton, Northampton, spoke only to confirm his date of birth and to enter pleas to the five charges, including the two attempted murders.

He was charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following the incident in Staindrop.

The defendant was also charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following the Thornaby incident.
