A new County Durham Farmers Market will launch later this month, as almost 40 traders have signed up to sell their produce at the first edition of the event.
Middleton-in-Teesdale Farmers Market will take place on Saturday, May 25, and will then take place on the final Saturday of every month at the Mart Buildings on The Bank in Middleton-in-Teesdale.
The organiser of the event, Naomi Katze, only moved to the town in 2023 but has already signed up 37 stallholders for the first edition of the market on the 25th.
And as well as local traders, the coordinator of the new market has said that traders will also come from Cumbria, North Yorkshire, Northumberland and County Durham to showcase their produce.
The event will be geared up towards food, the farm and the farmhouse kitchen, with stalls ranging from meat, cheese & milk to bread, fruit and veg, cakes and savoury bakes.
Naomi, who has run successful farmer market events in Lincolnshire, where she used to live, has set out what the markets are about - and about her hopes for the event.
She said: "We are very focused on being a traditional Farmers Market (and not an art/craft fair).
"We wanted to, and have succeeded in, booking all the types of traders that you would hope to see at a traditional farmers' market.
"That includes artisan bakers, fruit and veg, butchery, fish and seafood, game, cheese and dairy, charcuterie and lots of preserves and pickles too. There are also plants and planters, and items that you may use in the farmhouse kitchen, so handmade charcuterie boards, handmade pottery and ceramics.

"We haven’t forgotten cakes, bakes and handmade chocolates, and dog treats."
She added: "The idea is to offer a full and varied range of produce that perhaps the customers wouldn’t necessarily be able to get locally. There is however 70 per cent from County Durham, some from the village itself.
"We’re also very keen to promote the village itself and hope that the people that come to the market, will also go on to support the village shops, cafés, pubs and activities.
"It really could be a great day out for all, with plenty of free parking at the farmers market itself. So once they’ve shopped and scoffed at the market, they can stroll up to the village for a spot of lunch, a look at the Book Fair (it’s in the Masonic Hall) or just a mooch around the pretty village of Middleton-in-Teesdale."
The markets will take place on the last Saturday of each month at Middleton Mart Buildings on The Bank in Middleton-in-Teesdale, DL12 0PG.
