As we head towards the Bank Holiday, we have rounded up five of the best places to get fish and chips in Whitby over that time.

With places doing takeout and eat-in options, all that's needed is the sun to go along with it.

Here's our top five picks for fish and chips when it comes to Whitby:

Trenchers

New Quay Road, Whitby

Starting out the list with a strong choice - Trenchers is one of the most popular fish and chip places in Whitby - topping the review list for the number of reviews it has received and the high ratings it has received.

This place does everything from traditional fish and chips to prawn cocktails, lobsters and fish pies - it also offers takeout, as opposed to the option to eat in.

It's clear from the reviews, which rate it 4.5 stars out of five on TripAdvisor that it's a top pick to go this Bank Holiday.

Here's what people have said about it: "Little bit more expensive, but oh so worth it! So much choice, couldn’t make up my mind. So many things on the menu, but if you want a treat stick with the classics - scampi, chips, mushy peas and bread and butter."

Magpie Café

14 Pier Road, Whitby

This place almost needs no introduction - one of the best fish and chip shops out there - Whitby or otherwise.

From its tradition of serving food to its design and décor inside the restaurant, it's plain to see people love the place from the reviews alone.

It has nearly 10,000 reviews on TripAdvisor, with over 85 per cent of those either good or excellent.

Here's what one impressed diner had to say: "Best fish and chips ever, service and attention to detail by all staff is amazing. They deserve every accolade that comes their way. Well done."

Royal Fisheries

48 Baxtergate, Whitby

Perhaps not as well-known as the previous two on the list - but from the reviews, you'd have never known.

Boasting a 4.5 score out of five with almost 700 reviews, this place is also worth a visit if the other two are busy on Bank Holiday weekend.

With its crinkly cut chips to its massive portions of fish - it may indicate desserts are available here - but the meals are massive enough.

One diner who rated Royal Fisheries excellent said: "Beautiful fish and chips the best I’ve ever had in Whitby and overall from anywhere else. Will definitely be back that’s for sure."

Quayside

7 Pier Road, Whitby

Just a little further down from the Magpie, this place offers eat-in and take-out options and is in a great position to get passing trade.

Well worth a visit any time, but especially on a Bank Holiday. As you can expect, you may have to queue, given how busy Whitby can get.

Hadley's Fish & Chips

11 Bridge Street, Whitby

Picking itself up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, this fish and chip shop also offers the more traditional fish and chips, whether you want to takeaway or eat in.

With over 1000 excellent reviews on its TripAdvisor page, it's hard to disagree with people as making Hadley's one of the most popular in the Whitby area - especially on a Bank Holiday.
