A variety of postcodes in the area have been revealed among Britain’s 20 cheapest places to buy a house, according to new data from January 2023 to January 2024.
With constant inflation rises, the opportunity for first time buyers to get a mortgage offer that is affordable and reasonable is becoming more difficult.
This is leaving people either not moving out at all or paying to rent a place instead, meaning they have to push their property dreams aside.

Responding to this ongoing change, Online Marketing Surgery and Cardinal Steels have created their House Postcode Report, which ranks postcodes in Britain based on their average house price using data from the HM Land Registry.
But where in County Durham is one of the cheapest places to buy a house in the UK?
County Durham postcodes among UK's cheapest areas to buy a house
Shildon (DL4) was in the top five cheapest postcodes with an average house price of £86,993. Others that also ranked highly were:
- Easington, County Durham (SR8) - £100,112
- Ferryhill, County Durham (DL17) - £104,387
- Trimdon Station, County Durham (TS29) - £113,578
- Dipton, County Durham (DH9) - £114,487
Elsewhere in the North East, Chopwell (NE17) and Usworth (NE37) in Tyne and Wear were named with an average house price of £102,771 and £112,523 respectively.

- Moor Row, Cumbria (CA24) - £98,083
- Ferndale, Mid Glamorgan (CF43) - £99,001
- Easington, County Durham (SR8) - £100,112
- Barkerend, West Yorkshire (BD3) - £100,923
- Chopwell, Tyne and Wear (NE17) - £102,771
- New Tredegar, Gwent (NP24) - £104,214

Taking the top spot just above the BA1 postcode in Bradford was Middlehaven and the TS2 postcode area in Middlesbrough.
This ranked as the cheapest postcode in the UK to buy a house with an average house price of just £49,833.
