We all want to live on the best streets within our communities, but where are they located in the North East?

Well, now you can find out as The Telegraph has named the best 50 streets to live on in Britain and four in the region have made the top list.

The publisher has revealed new research conducted with Knight Frank which shows the price differences on the best streets, their surrounding neighbourhoods and the wider local authority.

It added: “The study takes the top slice of the deprivation index to identify the best places to live by region (based on crime levels, employment opportunities, quality of the public realm and proximity to schools and transport) before honing in on the highest value LSOAs (lower layer super output areas).

“Then, through interviews with leading estate agents, it reveals arguably the best streets in the land with a bias towards family-friendly pockets and properties in suburbs and towns, rather than down-town inner city spots or rural villages. These addresses boast period housing stock, are near the right schools and next to green or blue space.”

Best streets in the North East to live on

Potters Bank, Durham, County Durham

The Telegraph commented: “Judged to be one of the most expensive roads in Durham, Potters Bank sits in between a collection of the college buildings and stops just before the bend in the River Wear, close to the Prebends Bridge.

“It is five minutes to the countryside and one mile to Durham station and the centre of town.

“The last house to sell on Potters Bank in 2022 had six bedrooms, priced at £905,000.”

Graham Park Road, Gosforth, Newcastle

Sanderson Young’s Duncan Young explained: “The best address in Gosforth (and Newcastle) is Graham Park Road – off the high street with three-storey, six or seven bedroom Edwardian houses which start from £1,500,000. It’s a very family-orientated area.”

The Telegraph adds: “Two miles from Newcastle city centre, it is popular with commuting families with plenty of green space. The busy high street has independent cafes and pubs.”

Adderstone Crescent, Jesmond, Newcastle

The Telegraph said according to Young “what Gosforth is to families, Jesmond is to young creatives and bohemian couples.”

It added: “The most desirable street is Adderstone Crescent, close to Jesmond Dene, a narrow wooden valley that follows the River Ouseburn.

“There is a sprawling period bungalow with white pitched roofs, four bedrooms and a swimming for £1,100,000 through Rettie.”

Runnymede, Ponteland, Northumberland

“Runnymede is a road in the exclusive estate Darras Hall which has long appealed to Newcastle’s elite," explains the publisher.

“It is the widest and longest of the roads with deep plots and gardens.”

Young commented: “Last month we sold Alan Shearer’s old house to an offshore gas and oil executive.

“The area attracts celebrities and local business folk who have relocated out of the city.”

The Telegraph concluded: “Ponteland is a large village with the River Pont running through it where ancient inns sit alongside bustling bars.”
