Six people were taken to hospital - including a man who is fighting for his life - after a serious crash on the A19 in North Yorkshire yesterday (Tuesday, March 2).

Emergency services were alerted to the collision involving four cars at the Kirby Sigston crossroads, near Northerallerton, at about 3.30pm. 

Five ambulances, an air ambulance and police converged on the scene, as the road was closed both ways from A61 Stockton Road to the Northallerton turn-off. 

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a collision at about 3.30pm on Tuesday 2 April on the A19 east of Northallerton, near Kirby Sigston, involving four cars.

"Police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene.

"The vehicles involved were a blue Skoda Fabia, a dark blue Skoda Octavia, a black Volkswagen Tiguan and a black coloured Volkswagen Golf.

"Six people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment, including one man who suffered life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital at this time.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch straight away.

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We we received an emergency call at 3.35pm on Tuesday afternoon to report a collision on the A19 near Kirby Sigston.

"Five ambulances, an air ambulance and a team leader were dispatched to the scene and six patients were conveyed by road to James Cook Hospital."

The road remained closed in both directions for several hours, between the A684 (Northallerton) and the A61 (Thornborough) due to a serious collision. 

"North Yorkshire Police, Emergency services and Air Ambulance are currently in attendance."
