A man is fighting for his life after suffering multiple stab wounds in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, shortly after midnight.

Crime scene investigators dressed in white overalls have been at Birchington Avenue this morning and a house is cordoned off.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “Cleveland Police is appealing for information and any witnesses after a man sustained stab wounds following an incident in Grangetown.

“Officers were called to the incident on Birchington Avenue in Grangetown at around 12.30am this morning (Sunday March 31).

“A man was located with multiple stab wounds and he was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he is currently in a critical but stable condition.”

The man was taken to hospital by North East Ambulance Service.

A spokeswoman said: “We were called just before 12.30am to an incident on Birchington Avenue, Middlesbrough.

“We dispatched a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and a double crewed ambulance.

“One patient was taken to James Cook University Hospital.”

Police inquiries are ongoing.
