As February starts, The Northern Echo staff wanted to recommend five more of their favourite restaurants to try in 2024.

After a look online to get some more background on some of the more obscure choices I have pulled together a comprehensive list to inspire you.

This is not a definitive list of the best places to eat in the North East and North Yorkshire but we are confident they are all brilliant options.

Here are five more of The Northern Echo staff's pick of the best places to try in 2024:

1. Vegano, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4HZ

The Northern Echo:

Our newest reporter, Darcie Rawlings, has recommended Vegano in Newcastle as her pick for the year.

On their website they say "We would love to share our journey with you about our plant-based lifestyle and tell you about the host of wonderful rescue animals we look after."

They have recently been shortlisted for a best kebab award so head over and try one out!

2. South Causey Inn, Stanley DH9 0LS

The Northern Echo:

Connor Larman, the light of our newsroom, is a big fan of the South Causey Inn. The pub specialises in a "country feel" and resides at the heart of Beamish Valley.

It functions as a pub, restaurant, cocktail bar and hotel.

It has 55 unique bedrooms and suites, from cosy en suite rooms to themed suites with private parking, luxury hot tubs, plush interiors, waterfall showers, private gardens and copper baths.

If you love it as much as Connor, you could even have your wedding there.

3. The Muddler, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6EF

The Northern Echo:

Our reporter Kayleigh Fraser, currently investigating the notorious whiff of Newton Aycliffe, enjoys spending a weekend visiting The Muddler in Newcastle.

On their website they describe themselves as an inviting pan-asian restaurant.

Whether you’re eating out with friends, colleagues, family or your partner, there’s a warm, attentive welcome at The Muddler.

They also have a variety of cocktails to enjoy on on an evening.

4. Artisan Corner, Barnard Castle DL12 8PQ

The Northern Echo:

Our ever more famous business editor Mike Hughes has recommended Artisan Corner in Barnard Castle after his original top pick of The Bay Horse was stolen by Nick Gullon.

While exploring the delights of Barnard Castle why not pop in and enjoy some fresh food.

Pictures on their Facebook page display a range of delicious meals from cakes to pies to jacket potatoes.

5. Jamdani, Whickham, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE16 4JB

The Northern Echo:

Our elder statesman reporter Gavin Engelbrecht waxed lyrical about this particular Indian restaurant.

It is apparently his go to takeaway and he was keen to stress how delicious their food is.

A quick search on Google confirms that he is not alone in his glowing praise of the restaurant.

They have a near perfect score on Tripadvisor after 419 reviews and come out as the top restaurant in Whickham.
