The nine most wanted criminals from the North East and North Yorkshire have been revealed, as police make a renewed effort to track down and catch the men and women evading arrest. 

Crimestoppers, who work as an anonymous agency to catch criminals, have put out their most wanted at the start of 2024 in an attempt to capture the criminals. 

We have pieced together the nine most wanted criminals:

Ryan Gilling

The Northern Echo:

Ryan Gilling was jailed in January 2019 for causing death by dangerous driving after a horror crash in Shotton Colliery near Peterlee. He has links to Peterlee.

A hearing at Teesside Crown Court in 2019 was told that just two weeks before the tragedy, the then 26-year-old had completed a one-year driving ban imposed for "racing on a highway" in Scotland.

He left the scene of the accident after passers-by helped him from the wreckage of his BMW, but he returned and fled again, the court heard.

Another driver, whose car was also shunted by the BMW and written off, said it looked like he was "either racing or playing Russian roulette".

Gilling, then of Manor House Estate, in nearby Hutton Henry, admitted causing death by dangerous driving. He was doing 70mph in the 40mph zone and was on the wrong side of the B1280. Manor House Estate, in Hutton Henry.

Gilling was also banned from the roads for six years and four months.

He has blue eyes and speaks with a North East accent.

Neil Coveney 

The Northern Echo:

Neil Coveney is wanted for failing to appear in court relating to assault on a police officer.

A warrant has been issued for the 41-year-old who has connections to Leamington Spa and Newcastle. He failed to appear in court after assaulting a police officer on Ponteland Road, Newcastle in November 2022.

He does not wear glasses, and his eye colour is blue. He has a scar on his right hand across his knuckles and a 3-inch scar on his left knee. Wears a stud in his left ear.

Stephen Anthony Phillips

The Northern Echo:

Nicknames: Fisherman Steve or Speedy Steve

Stephen Anthony Phillips is wanted for Stalking and Harassment, Malicious Communication, Criminal Damage and Burglary Dwelling which occurred in Scarborough in June 2023.

Police are appealing for any information which could lead to the arrest of Stephen Phillips, aged 41, who is wanted for several offences relating to Stalking and Harassment which occurred in June 2023 in Scarborough.

Phillips is employed as a Fisherman and is frequently at sea for long periods of time. Due to Phillip's employment, he is associated with several areas of the UK including Scarborough, Whitby, South Shields and Scotland.

Phillips talks with a Yorkshire accent.

Gerard Kamizela

The Northern Echo:

Gerard Kamizela is wanted for Failing to appear at Newcastle Magistrates Court.

The 43-year-old is a Polish national who was most recently living in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area.

He is wanted for failing to attend Newcastle Magistrates Court on suspicion of Drugs offences.

He has links to Newcastle Upon Tyne, Bishop Auckland and County Durham.

Kamizela has a sleeve tattoo on his left arm, an unknown design.

Dong Nguyen

The Northern Echo:

Nguyen is wanted for Failing to appear at Newcastle Crown Court.

Nguyen, 26, is a Vietnamese national who was previously living in the Blyth area of Northumberland.

He is wanted for failing to attend Newcastle Crown Court on suspicion of drugs offences.

Anthony Mawdsley

The Northern Echo:

Anthony Mawdsley is wanted for Emergency Prison Recall, has shown poor behaviour and committed offences.

He is from the Washington area and has a girlfriend in the Stanley area.

He has a tattoo on the left side of his neck with the name ‘Anthony’, and he has a speech impediment and a scar on the left side of his face. 

Callum Cross

Callum Cross is wanted for failure to attend court for an outstanding warrant for arrest.

Cross is currently wanted for failing to attend court and is currently outstanding as wanted.

Anyone who has seen him is asked to call 101, quoting his name.

His family reside in the Newcastle area.

David Stephen Hall

The Northern Echo:

David Stephen Hall is wanted for Standard Prison Recall.#

Hall is wanted on prison recall and is believed to be actively evading arrest.
