A woman in her 80s has been left seriously injured after being hit by a car on New Year’s Day.
The pensioner, who was on foot, was hit by a black Vauxhall Corsa which mounted the pavement.
The incident happened on Church Street in Murton, County Durham at about midday.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to James Cook hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
Police say they believe the car was travelling east towards Dalton Park. The driver did not suffer any injuries.
Durham Police are now appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to contact them.

A force spokesperson said: “The incident took place on Church Street at around 12pm, and involved a black Vauxhall Corsa.
“Officers investigating the incident are appealing to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident, or of the vehicle prior to the collision, to get in touch.
“Anybody with any information is asked to contact PC Ben Emerson via ben.emerson@durham.police.uk, quoting incident number 238 of January 1.”
