A market in Tyne and Wear has been named the best seaside market to visit in the UK.

Tynemouth Market featured in the top 10 list according to new research by market stall gazebo suppliers, Gazeboshop.

The experts identified the top UK coastal markets by analysing 32 markets in coastal locations on a number of factors, including Tripadvisor reviews, Instagram hashtags, TikTok views and Google searches.

For locals and regular visitors, it will come as no surprise that Tynemouth Market ranked so highly.

Celebrated as the North’s most vibrant marketplace, its family-friendly atmosphere and more than 150 stalls are sheltered under a magnificent glazed roof dating back to the Victorian era.

Representing the North East, the analysis revealed that Tynemouth Market is the best seaside market in the UK, stealing the top spot by miles with an impressive score of 38.2 out of 40 for the different ranking factors. 

Racking up over 1,400,000 views on TikTok and receiving a review score of 4.5 on Tripadvisor, the famous market is held every weekend from 9am to 3.30pm, with international street food, vintage clothing and bric-a-brac lining the aisles at Tynemouth’s restored train station.

On Tripadvisor, one person wrote: “We arrived around 10.30am and it was in full swing. Really enjoyed walking round and talking in the atmosphere. I actually ended up having some lunch. I had the Mac and cheese and partner found some vegan crepes. Great food. I also bought a few presents for people.”

Meanwhile, another visitor said: “Always some great stalls here from good food to stalls selling some rare treasures. Would highly recommend if you’re not from the area.”
