A beach in North Tyneside has been named one of the best in the UK, according to Condé Nast Traveller.

Whitley Bay featured on the list which included 52 locations from around the nation put together by the luxury travel magazine.

What did Condé Nast Traveller say about Whitley Bay in North Tyneside?

The Tyne and Wear resort ranked in 31st place and is among the likes of Filey Brigg and South Bay in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Condé Nast Traveller said: “This stunning beach front was originally a famous Victorian holiday resort, complete with a traditional funfair and bathing area.

“Now, it is still a popular holiday destination for locals, who come here to swim in the clean, safe waters.”

They also revealed the best places to stay near Whitely Bay, adding: “There aren't too many hotels of note in the town just yet, but there are plenty of great Airbnb options.

“We like the look of this large upper floor maisonette which is a ten minute walk to the beach.”

On Tripadvisor, the beach has a high rating of 4.5/5 and many visitors have praised the location.

One person wrote this review: “What a beautiful area and gorgeous views. Lovely walk along the front and plenty of cafes to call in at for refreshments.

“Easy access for wheelchairs and buggies and lots of dog walkers enjoying exercising their dogs. Definitely worth a visit.”

Another commented: “Huge expanse of soft, golden sand and wide prom. Only a couple of amusement arcades because all you need is the beach and the views from St Mary’s lighthouse to the Spanish City.”

“If you like walking, you can turn right to North Shields, taking in Cullercoats and Tynemouth. Alternatively, turn right to Seaton Sluice, taking in the lighthouse and island. Easy walks on the flat.”
