The Great North Air Ambulance service has confirmed they airlifted a patient to hospital after a collision on a County Durham road yesterday afternoon (July 16).

Emergency services were called to the A67 at Winston between Darlington and Barnard Castle yesterday afternoon just before 3pm following reports of a collision.

The road was then closed off from motorists as the Great North Air Ambulance attended the scene and air-lifted one person to James Cook University Hospital.

A spokesperson said: “The Great North Air Ambulance was called out at 2:47pm, and we arrived on scene at 2:57pm.

“The patient was transported by air to James Cook University hospital at 3:41pm.”

Yesterday, a spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: "Officers are dealing with a road traffic collision on the A67 at Winston. Road is currently closed."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A67 in Winston at 2.43pm this afternoon.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital for further treatment."
