An historic house and gardens is offering visitors a flavour of American motoring, music and mouth-watering foods, at its latest themed event, next weekend.

‘Merican Motors will take day-trippers heading to Ushaw, on the outskirts of Durham, on a journey to a bygone era of US motoring with a display of up to 100 vehicle that would have graced the auto routes and highways of the 1960s and 70s.

The American Classic Car and Bike Show will feature iconic muscle cars, including Cadillacs, Chevrolets and Pontiacs, plus legendary American motorcycles, particularly the distinctive Harley-Davidson machine.

Providing the perfect soundtrack to the event will be an array of American-inspired live performances, with plenty of on-site refreshments, including the tantalising aroma of sizzling American delicacies, plus a bar and ‘mocktail’ station.

The event takes place at Ushaw Historic House, Chapels and Gardens, off Woodland Road, between Ushaw Moor, Bearpark, Esh Village, and Langley Park, on Sunday (July 2), from 10am to 3pm.

Entry is free with annual or day passes to Ushaw. Visitors purchasing or renewing annual passes will be intitled to fast-track entry to the car and bike show.

Other forcthcoming events at Ushaw include the Forties’-themed Way Back When, on August 5/6, Sounds on the Bounds Rock Choir, on Saturday August 19 and Ushaw Viking Takeover, on the August Bank Holiday weekend, August 26 - 28.

Day passes, including entry to the main house, chapels, gardens and refectory café, cost £8 for adults, £5 for children, aged five to 18, with under-5s’ free.

Annual passes, offering unlimited entry for 12 months, is £19 per adult, £12.50 for children and free for under-5s.

Family passes for two adults and two children costs £39.

There are further discount offers available for ‘local’ individuals, with DH7 9 or 7 postcodes.
