In September last year the chain announced a rebrand, changing its name from from One Below to One Beyond. The company switched from promising prices of under £1, to offering ‘Amazing value from only £1’.

At the time owners Chris Edwards Jnr and Snr told trade publication The Grocer the current climate meant it would be ‘impossible’ to keep prices under £1 and that the rebrand had always been the intention.

Edwards Snr said: “To keep everything for £1 or less we’d have to take too many items out of the shop,” he said. “We were making it work but we always said those days would come to an end, and with everything that’s going on in the world now it’s just impossible.”
