A North East soldier is getting ready to go on parade for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Drum Major Rob Sarjeant, from Gateshead, will be marching in the procession of more than 6,000 military personnel that escorts Their Majesties from today's Saturday, May 6) coronation service at Westminster Abbey back to Buckingham Palace.
This week, Drum Major Sarjeant has been taking part in large scale rehearsals that will turn individual soldier’s polishing of their kit and units’ drill practice into a glittering spectacle fit to mark the crowning of a new King and Queen.
The 30-year-old who serves with the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment said: “It makes me incredibly proud to represent the Regiment on parade. I know my family will be proudly watching at home.”

His role as the Battalion’s Drum Major has seen him play an integral role in the preparation of the 27 officers and soldiers who will be representing the Regiment on the parade.
Drum Major Rob Sarjeant went to Thomas Hepburn Community College and has been in the Army for 13 years.
The 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment nicknamed ‘The Poachers’ is a Light Mechanised Infantry Battalion based at Kendrew Barracks, Cottesmore, Rutland and is part of 7th Light Mechanised Brigade Combat Team.
