A driver has been caught on dashcam footage dangerously overtaking another car as part of a police operation.

A driver of a black Mini was caught dangerously overtaking another car on a Chester-le-Street road by dashcam video submitted to Durham Police's Op Snap.

The driver was prosecuted for careless driving and given three penalty points and a £100 fine.

The footage was one of several pieces of evidence submitted as part of the operation which serves as a reporting tool for the public to directly upload dashcam video of potential offences to the force.

Durham Roads & Armed Policing Unit review the footage for any offences are found and will deal with perpetrators afterwards.

Durham Police said: "This driver was caught on dashcam making this dangerous overtake in Chester-le-Street.

"It is one of several pieces of evidence submitted as part of Op Snap – the new reporting tool that allows members of the public to directly upload dashcam footage of potential offences to the force.

"Specially trained staff in our Durham Roads & Armed Policing Unit then review the footage and if any offences are found to have been committed, the drivers will be dealt with.

"In this case, the driver of the black Mini was prosecuted for careless driving and given three penalty points and a £100 fine – an expensive consequence of his impatience."
