An alley in Middlesbrough has been branded a “magnet for fly-tippers” after multiple tonnes of waste was discovered by council workers.

The alley, located behind Kensington Road, has been singled out by the council after two tonnes of waste was removed from the site on Wednesday (April 12).

Among the waste pictured were old carpets, household waste and an unused bin, with the council warning those responsible will be found.The Northern Echo:

In a Facebook post, Middlesbrough Council stated: “We will find you and fine you.”

They added: “The alley behind Kensington Road had become a magnet for fly-tippers and selfish residents, with household waste and dumped furniture strewn along its length.

“An investigation is now underway using CCTV and other means to track down those responsible, and Council chiefs have renewed their warning that those caught face hefty fines.”

This latest incident is one of thousands of fly-tipping occurrences that take place in the North East every year.

Government data reveals that over 200,000 reports were submitted to the region’s councils in 2021-2022.

In Middlesbrough, reports of fly-tipping has increased year on year from 2019, with the council receiving just over 9,500 reports of the crime last year.

Middlesbrough council are now urging residents to dispose of items at the household waste and recycling centre located at Haverton Hill.
