A person has been taken to hospital after a car crashed near a Darlington park.

A person has been taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital after a car reportedly crashed through fencing on Yarm Road, near Tommy Crooks Park this Thursday (February 9).

Emergency services were alerted to the incident, which took place near Yarm Road Fish and Chips shop, just before 5pm.

Eye witnesses said it appeared the car had left the road and crashed through a fence opposite the Cummins Engine Plant.

A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson confirmed the patient had been taken from the scene to hospital after being treated by paramedics.

An NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called at 16.40h to reports of a road traffic incident on Yarm Road in Darlington.

"We dispatched one paramedic ambulance who treated one patient before taking them to Darlington Hospital."

This comes after witnesses at the scene said they saw fire engines and and an ambulance at the top of Yarm Road earlier today.
