Police have confirmed a man in his 70s has tragically died after being hit by a car in a County Durham village yesterday (Wednesday, February 9).

Emergency services were alerted after a collision between a car and pedestrian on West Lane, Trimdon Station, shortly before 5.30pm on Wednesday.

The road was closed for several hours while officers carried out their investigations.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "A man has died following a collision in Trimdon last night.

"Police were called just before 5.30pm yesterday (February 8) to a one-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on West Lane in Trimdon Station.

"Paramedics also attended, but tragically the pedestrian – a man in his 70s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The road has now re-opened, and enquiries are currently ongoing." 

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision investigation unit on 101.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 17.19pm yesterday to a medical incident on West Lane, Trimdon.

“We sent one clinical team leader, two doctors and one emergency ambulance. We transported one patient to Darlington Memorial Hospital.”
