A popular restaurant in County Durham has sadly closed its doors.

The team at The Herb & Herb Restaurant in Sedgefield posted on social media yesterday (Saturday, January 7) to announce the imminent closure.

The Facebook post alluded to the cost-of-living crisis being the main reason that the difficult decision was made to shut up shop.

The post has racked up 219 comments with locals communicating their sadness to hear the news of another business closing.

The post read: “It is with regret that we have to inform you that the Herd and Herb Restaurant in Sedgefield is now closed for the foreseeable future. The current economic climate has made the business unviable in its present form and we will take time out to evaluate our operating position for the future.

“The Hardwick Arms Hotel & Bar will continue to operate as normal. We will be in touch regarding any outstanding vouchers and deposits.

“We would like to thank all our customers for your continuous support and loyalty over the past 5 years, it has been an absolute pleasure to welcome you into The Herd and this has not been an easy decision to make.

“Due to our closure, we would like to remind everyone that gift vouchers will be refunded. This will be sorted early next week, please do not come to the restaurant for a refund. All vouchers will be refunded to the original payment method in due course.

“Thanks for your patience.”

In a separate post, the team reminded customers that any vouchers would be refunded:

“Due to our closure, we would like to remind everyone that gift vouchers will be refunded. This will be sorted early next week, please do not come to the restaurant for a refund. All vouchers will be refunded to the original payment method in due course.

“Thanks for your patience.”

This comes as husband and wife team of another local business, The Mowden, in Darlington, posted on Facebook earlier this week announcing the planned closure of the pub this summer.
