A new takeaway food business is opening in Darlington after the unit has stood empty since last summer.

Cockerton Pizza has taken over the shop once occupied by Cockerton Post & Packing, and before that it was a WH Smith branch for around 20 years.

Cockerton Post & Packing closed at the end of July 2022 and now a pizza business will be opening later this month.

The business is offering 50 per cent off on its opening day on Monday, January 16.

Taz Din, manager of Cockerton pizza, said: “We’ve already had loads of people message the Facebook page asking when we open so people are definitely interested and it should be a good area for business.

“We have another couple of takeaways, one in Middlesbrough and one in Hartlepool so we don’t really know the area but we’re looking forward to opening.”

The Darlington village is known for its takeaway food outlets, with Pizza Master (formerly The Green takeaway), Cockerton Fisheries, Spice 4 U, Little Fat Buddha, Greggs, Cooplands, Godfather’s, Noodle House, all within a five-minute walk from each other.

Cockerton has seen businesses close in the last year including Fennell’s Retro & Vintage last summer, but businesses that have opened in the village in the past year including The Beauty Company and Dough.
