The Met Office has issued an updated yellow weather warning affecting much of the North East – here’s what it is and when it will hit.

A yellow warning for snow showers and icy surfaces has been issued for the region, and the forecaster has since updated the warning.

The cold weather is now set to strike between midnight and 12pm tomorrow morning.

Warnings of roads and railways are likely being affected and the forecaster has warned of longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

Injuries from slips and falls could be likely on icy surfaces.

There’s also a risk of icy patches on roads, pavements and cycle paths on untreated pavements.

When could snow hit tomorrow?

Forecasts in Darlington have warned that snow could hit at around 8pm and 9pm with a 40 per cent chance.

On Teesside, snow could hit at around 7pm with a 40 per cent chance and then a 30 per cent chance of further snow at 9pm.

In Durham, the picture is fairly similar with snow set to hit at around 8pm with a 40 per cent chance.

For Newcastle, snow is set to hit at around 7pm with a 50 per cent chance.

This wintery weather is set to continue into the weekend, the full forecast from Wednesday to Friday reads: “Very cold with widespread frost and some freezing fog patches forming overnight, slow to clear by day.

“Wintry showers pushing inland from coasts on a stronger wind Wednesday and Thursday."
