A North East teenager was taken to hospital after a car hit the back of his bike and drove off without stopping.

Police are seeking more information after a 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being knocked off his bike by a car on Acklam Road in Middlesbrough.

The teenager, who was riding a bright green mountain bike, had his back wheel clipped by an "old" silver or grey car, whose driver failed to stop on Tuesday (November 22).

Fortunately, the boy's injuries were not deemed serious after he was assisted by a member of the public and checked over at a hospital.

Cleveland Police are now appealing for any CCTV or dashcam footage which might help identify the driver.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for information after a 14-year-old boy was knocked from his bike in a collision on Acklam Road in Middlesbrough.

"At around 8.10am on the morning of Tuesday 22nd November, the teenager was riding a bright green men’s mountain bike along Acklam Road, heading towards Middlesbrough town centre, when a silver or grey car, described as old, clipped the rear wheel of his bike, knocking him onto the road.

"The driver of the car failed to stop and the child was assisted by a member of the public."

"The injured teen was taken to hospital to be checked over, and fortunately only suffered minor injuries."
