Police are continuing their investigations into a fire that ravaged an award-winning North Yorkshire restaurant.

The fire caused extensive damage to The Star Inn restaurant in Harome, near Helmsley, when it broke out on the night of November 24 last year.

At its peak, nine fire engines attended the blaze after the thatched roof of the 14th century building caught fire.

A few days later it was confirmed that police believed that the devastating fire was started deliberately and they have issued an update this week.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said on Thursday: "Investigations are continuing into the fire at The Star Inn restaurant in Harome which happened on 24 November 2021.

"It is believed the fire was started deliberately.

"A man voluntarily attended an interview in connection with the incident and was released under investigation.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

During the past two decades, The Star has won virtually every relevant industry award from a much-celebrated Michelin star to Top UK Gastropub.

Top chef Andrew Pern is behind the venue as well as satellite restaurants in York - The Star Inn the City - and at Whitby, the Star Inn the Harbour.
