The aftermath of the fire which broke out at a County Durham wholesaler and required multiple emergency vehicles to attend the scene has been revealed.

Metal sheets at the rear of the George Bolam Foods site have been left damaged after a fire on Wednesday (November 9).

The rear of the building was left blackened and charred after the fire yesterday, which saw ambulance and fire crews called to the facility.

The store, on Salters Lane, remained closed today after the incident with very few cars being visible in the car park and the entrance shutters down.

Meanwhile, a worker at the nearby Sainsbury's petrol station said no one in the store, which sits closely to the site, knows what caused the fire.

Yesterday, onlookers watched on as fire engines and ambulances arrived on the scene to deal with the blaze.

Meanwhile, passersby captured images of growing fires and billowing black smoke to the rear of the site.

In a statement yesterday, a County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDRS) spokesperson confirmed firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.
